What was the first scene?

   Most examples have precursors...

   goths were preceeded by punks;
   punks were preceeded by glam rockers;
   hippies were preceeded by the beats.

Candidates:

  The Beats, are arguably the ur-scene, or
  "The Source" to quote William Burrough's       THE_SAUCE
  claim.
                                                 It's possible that the

  arguably the ur-fandom, from which             even more primary than
  the punks learned about fanzines,              the beats -- "deviant"
  and the goths learned about conventions.       sexuality is a powerful
