When you talk about Scientific Revolutions you tend
to get people pontificating about the old Copernican...

A remark I've made:

   ... my understanding of relativity is that it
   shoots down the idea that the sun must be taken
   as the center of the solar system (there is no
   "preferred reference frame"): you can describe        But then, you
   everything as moving around the earth if you          could argue that
   want, it's just that you end up with some             rotating frames
   pretty complicated curves when you look at            of reference are a
   things that way. The heliocentric view is             different case,
   preferred because of a sense of elegance--            with well-defined
   things get simpler, the equations are more            centers....
   compact, and we take that as an advantage, but
   it's a little hard to justify the idea that one
   view or the other is The Truth.
