The entire idea of the Turning
Test is to side-step questions
about the definition of humanity
and intelligence with an
operational definition.

If you can't tell if the entity on the
other end of the line is a human being
or some software imitating humanity,
then you've created the equivalent of a
human intelligence.


   There are troubles with the Turning Test:


     o  it was established early-on that it
        doesn't take a very "intelligent" piece    "Eliza" faked the
        of software to give people the feeling     transactional style
        they're talking to a human being.          of psychoanalysis
                                                   pretty well.

                                                      Though perhaps
                                                      that's a reflection
                                                      on psychoanalysts.

     o  it should be abundantly clear by now
        that there are many human beings that
        have trouble passing the Turning Test.

             Can you tell if you're talking
             to a hired shill working from a
             list of talking points, or a
             useful idiot that's been wound
             up by the shills?
