CLUBBED

"Tell me what clubs are like."


   Darkness.  Smog cranked out by machines and
   cigarettes.  Multi-colored flashing beams
   of light.  Loud pulsing industrial dance
   music and/or 80s rock, with occasional
   touches of goth music.

   A fascinating crowd full of people dressed
   in interesting ways.  But whenever you
   approach one of them, either their wit or
   yours will invariably fail, leaving you
   drowning in contempt or self-contempt in
   either case.  Luckily the music will
   largely be too loud to talk.

   If you're not into alcohol, the bar is
   guaranteed to carry little of interest
   (seven-up, coke, very bad concentrated
   orange juice).  But oddly enough, the
   coffee in bars is often very good: few
   people drink it, but the bartenders
   themselves do.

   And you can always take refuge in the dance floor.
