DUCKING_DRAKE

                                             July 1, 2008

A friend of mine of the nerdy
   persuasion once commented on
   the John Drake character
   ("Secret Agent", aka "Danger
   Man"), complaining that "he's
too good at too many things".

   He much preferred a character
like John le Carre's "Smiley": The impulse to create
intelligent, supremely competent a perfect character,
in his field, but not a master ala "The Saint" is
of every field. probably a very juvenile
                                                one, a very naive approach.

The flawed character is engaging THE_KRYPTONITE_ESCAPE
to people resigned to being flawed.
                                                   But sometimes
                                                   it works:

                                                      "Our Man Flint"

                                                      "Buckaroo Banzai"
