FAME

One of my many contradictions:

I turn up my nose at the pursuit of fame,
and yet acknowledge the importance of
marketing.                                         And there are many
                                                   among the famous
    Having any wide-spread effect                  and influential
    on the world would seem to be                  who I respect for
    nearly synomous with having                    what they do with
    fame, but chasing after it                     their influence.
    always seems trite and sleazy.

    My preferred model is to do
    whatever you want to do, and
    hope that enough people notice       If the notion is that you're somehow
    on their own for it to have been     going to break the day-job barrier
    worth doing.                         with that approach, that's roughly on
                                         the level of haunting Hollywood soda
                                         fountains, though perhaps not quite
                                         as bad as camping out on hilltops
                                         awaiting the flying saucers.
