PERMANENT_GAP

                                             July 24, 2010

Some of Harvey Pekar's
theories about art:
                                          [link]

o Van Goh was considered crazy, then a genius.
Shostakovitch was considered crazy, and now "Genius":
they still don't want to hear it. essentially a
                                                          social status,
Harvey Pekar called this the "permanent gap". a matter of
                                                          reputation?
o Without public funding for the arts,
all art becomes folk art after a
while: everyone just wants the same
    thing, over and over.

But public funding isn't a solution, because
the judges are too stupid (faddish, dedicated
    to an "elite" in group?).

    To do anything new, you
have to keep your day job.
