"An art I do not call it, but
only an experience, because it GORGIAS
is unable to explain or to give
a reason of the nature of its
own applications."

Okay: we call things like this
"science", (or perhaps an "educated This might make more sense
discipline"), and we use "art" to mean (to us) if we took this
almost the precise opposite -- art is to mean that art has
concerned with the mystery, the truths purpose-- it's an act of
that cannot be precisely stated (at communication. (Maybe.)
least not yet, perhaps not ever).

"I do not call any irrational thing an
art; but if you dispute my words, I am MADNESS
prepared to argue in defence of them."

Socrates repeatedly hints that he understands
there are other ways of understanding, but this
is only a polite nod: really he believes his own
understanding is the one true one.
