RISK_STRATEGY

                                             March 22, 2016

With the popular war game "Risk", I use
a strategy that I don't think is particularly
unusual:

I build strength as quickly as
possible, use it to attack and The Heinlien of
seize territory and cards, then "Starship Troopers"
consolidate and regroup only long would no doubt
enough to build the strength to approve of this.
   attack again.

I might have told you that this is the
only effective way to play, but I've
seen another strategy in use that
completely baffled me, and yet won the
game: a player that quietly avoided
combat, and continually built up large
armies used mainly defensively, to
discourage attacks.

When I play, I effectively teach everyone in the
game to expect me to attack at any moment.

This more defense-oriented stratgy sets up the
opposite expectation: there's no need to worry
about this odd guy that doesn't seem to know how
to play very well, and any way his border is too
well-fortified to be very easy to pick off a
   country just for a card...

So instead, the more aggressive players
wear each other down, and create a long
range opening for the defensive player.
