Is it just East vs. West?

   Maybe what we really have in use is:

      The Middle East
      Africa (meaning that parts that aren't in "The Middle East")
      Europe
      The former Soviet States
      Russia
      India
      Asia (meaning the parts that don't include any of the above)
      South America and Central America
      The United States (sometimes just "America")
      Canada
      Australia (& NZ)

   That would be the "fine-grained" understanding --
   and it definitely has it's problems, and raising
   awareness of those problems would perhaps be
   more worthy of study than just "east vs west".
