BAKUMAN_FROZEN
July 9, 2013
The Bakuman anime is incredibly
weak. They're deeply convinced
that the Manga is too slow and
talky to be anime and they mess
with the story constantly-- but
they have no feel for what Mashiro groans in pain
they're doing, they keep having as he draws in the hospital,
characters go out of character and Azuki runs over and props
for the sake of Drama, and him up, helping to hold the
instead of tightening things up, pen. WTF?
they end up making it dull with
repetitive, looping dialog that The Mashiro-Azuki relationship
often doesn't quite make sense. is admittedly difficult to
put over, but the *manga*
"We need to get 5th place." could do it.
"Will we be able to do it?!"
The manuscript is done, turned in,
finished. The shell has been fired,
whether it hits has nothing to do Some of the best material
with any further effort on their part. in the manga is throughly
"talky"-- e.g. the dialog
about geniuses and
gamblers. This is just
dropped from the anime.
They were allowed to do *three* seasons of
this, in an era when single season anime
is practically the rule.
Maybe I need to work more on that
theory of mine about Japanese
creative teams having respect for
the original work.
OTAKU_RESPECT
With something like "Ouran Host Club"
it's impressive how much they succeeded
in tightening up the story in the manga
while remaining true to it;
with something like "Hikaru No Go", it's
remarkable how faithful they were to a
story nearly devoid of physical action...
"Bakuman" makes one wonder.
Actually, by the time you get to
the third season, it seems like
it stays on track -- there are One suspects that had some
no more abominations thrown in fan feedback to help show
like the visual kei rocker who them the way...
wants to do manga.
(Um: but that was in the original
manga, dude. What you talking about?)
It has it's flaws, but these are
largely the flaws of the original.
