OTAKU_RESPECT
May 10, 2012
The Japanese tendency toward classification,
toward slotting things into their boxes.
The fear of individuality, the constant
search for an allowed, approved move.
An acceptance of genre, a willingness to
proceed by very small steps.
They approach the material with more
respect, because their egos are off of the
table.
When you make an anime of a manga,
you don't throw away everything but
the title and write your own story--
as is done regularly in the Hollywood
world. "The book was different from
the movie" is such a common comment
it's become stupid to even say it.
The equivalent inane remark in the
anime world is "the anime appears to
be following the manga pretty well".

perhaps their commerce deserves more respect?
I look down on commercialized
culture not out of a desire to
be a true red marxist or the
snob to end all snobs, but
because my experience has been
it doesn't work.

So what works depends on who Hollywood.)
you've got working; the social
character of groups determines
what groups can do:
Social groups are not interchangeable units,
because Human beings not interchangeable units...

The actual Hollywood Syndrome is
a problem with over-reaching:
daring to be great when you're
not that great.
