CHEESECAKE

                                         Dec 2, 2012

    Once upon a time, I saw a
    movie where an artist (played
    by someone like Montgomery or
    Young) is showing off his
    means of livelihood to a
woman visiting his studio: he In the Theodore Sturgeon
glorifies the female form in story, "To Here and the
the medium of *cheesecake*. Easel", an artist briefly
                                          considers indulging in
A commercial hack, with a cheesecake as a way around
certain perverse pride in his artist's block-- but he
what he does... remains stuck, for reasons
                                          he has trouble pinning down.

                       As with burlesque... a layer
of irony, a retro veneer, a
                       standardize toybox of risque.
                       Acceptable to pervs who want
                       to be straight. Or vice-versa?

Cheesecake is used as a central
   example in Greenberg's
   "Avant-garde and Kitsch" (1939):

Cheescake as a devolved form of the
artistic nude, kitsch as the devolved
   form of avant-garde.
