Reading the infamous
"Da Vinci Code" (2003)
by Dan Brown:
POV
The pov:
A floating, fractured view,
oscillating between greater or
lesser knowlege than the lead A twist: the one
characters. viewpoint that
the narrative
The main male does not visit
character is weak, turns out to be
colorless. the mastermind!
Only a little better is the female
lead, which should be an important
role in a book calling for recognition
of the "sacred feminine". A monster: a psychotic,
limping albino masochist.
Her decade-long emotional reaction is
a key element of the backstory; her
impulses drive the foreground story:
neither are terribly believeable.
The novelty here is
elsewhere though: it's
the sense that the
author may be serious. The background
material seems
But that intro! straight out of
"The Templar
"All secret Revelation"--
ceremonies which I happen
guaranteed to own a copy
accurate." of... (oh don't
ask why).
How *can* this be
taken seriously? And that book is
*so* obviously
cranky and crazy...
Strange that this book has it doesn't seem
provoked so many extensive likely that a Dan
debunkeries... what are Brown would take
they so nervous about? it as much more
than fodder for
a story.
Perhaps the forces of
doctrinaire Christianity
are not quite the
unassailable juggernaut
that they often seem?
