Of late, I occasionally sit
down and force myself to Despite my complaints about
read some of the good new SF the difficulty of tracking
that's out there. down and identifying this
kind of thing, really I have
It takes a lot of work. no difficulty amassing a
                                       large pile of candidates
For example, Ken MaCleod, that sit unread on my stacks.
   "Dark Light"... a book
   that certainly doesn't
   seem terrible, that's IN_DEEP
   written by an author I
   know and respect already.

   I read a few hundred
pages, and then just ((other linkage?))
   put it aside. Why?

If science fiction is a way ETERNAL_HUMAN
of thinking maybe it's better
to think science fiction than
to read it.

                                (The generally poor quality of
much of SF must be a boon to the
SF writer: you can just keep
working and not worry much about
                                "keeping up with the field",
since you know it's not going
                                anywhere.)
