The thesis-in-progress:
popular art advances in
small steps, by an TWISTING_SHADOWS
evolutionary process.

The Nick Fury character is one of my exhibits.

The original gruff-but-likeable "Sgt. Fury"
was a pretty dull, WW-II cliche and the
decision to put out a Secret Agent comic to
capitalize on the Bond craze was a similarly
dull bit of commercially-driven recourse to
cliche...

But hybridizing the two, taking the old
"Sgt. Fury" character and transforming him
into a "Bond" figure (and *also* an "M") as
"Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD"... that was a
good move.

   It's not exactly
an act of genius, Possibly: it's another
but it worked. application of the
                                 NOVELTY_AGAIN "rule of reversals":
The child was much Bond was "suave", so
stronger than you'd Marvel's version would
expect from such be a "rough neck".
   parentage.

                                                                BLAZING
