"maybe novelty is overrated".
I come back to it over And I think it's

thought...

How can a people

Something that was in
the air back in the
intellectual world of
the seventies:
They liked to talk about
raising consciousness, and
they didn't care if it was Or false
self-consciousness. consciousness?

Maybe this is just another
one of those cycles.
Every so often someone will
insist that it's time for Sometimes I speculate this may
everything to be New again. happen again, and I use clumsy
expressions like "a new 'sixties'
may soon be upon us".
But it goes back further than
the sixties... the original
"Romantic" movement was the
literary and artistic arm of
the political changes
following the French Revolution.
The revolution: Dionysian abandon,
instinctive, passionate action.
The new regime:
Rigid, narrow intellectual doctrines.
Apollo's golden manacles.
(And that is certainly no
new phrase, either. Where
did I lift that one from?)
