MIX7

Someone, I know not who, has been
posting sets of j-pop music to the
internet archive. One of them, [link]
"mix7jpopanimeotakumix", is a
collection of music from anime
sountracks.
There are a few hints up on that
page, but there's no actual Obvious:
playlist that explains what this
music is. I recognized some of it, HOST
and could figure out some others, BLEACHED_SOUND
but there are many I still can't
get. Easy: "Naruto"
This is what I know:
1: 0 - 2:53 ?
2: 2:58 - 6:37 "Ouran Host Club" theme
3: 6:38 - 10:31 "Naruto" theme ("we are fighting dreamers")
4: 10:32 - 14:27 ?
5: 14:30 - 19:27 "Bleach" theme
6: 19:28 - 22:54 ?
7: 22:55 - 27:29 ?
8: 27:30 - 32:21 ?
9: 32:22 - 36:44 Fruits Basket theme
10: 36:45 - 40:01 From "Our Neighbor Totoru", the theme of the great tree.
I'm going to have to pose this as a
question on an anime newsgroup. It's
actually a trivia quiz that you can't
just solve with some quick websearches.
After several listens, some of my
favorite music is in this mix...
It's often poppy and dubious,
(and one of the tracks just
strikes me as throughly bad, Ah: I've identified the
even after multiple plays) source. It's the theme for
the anime "Fruits Basket".
FRUITS_BASKET
If my first encounter with these
tracks had been as soundtracks on And having seen
anime DVDs, I'd be wondering now "Fruits Basket",
if seeing them in that context the theme doesn't
had corrupted my musical taste -- seem quite so foul...
but still.
Perhaps I wouldn't like
them at all if I'd heard
them on the radio instead?
But here I have, and I can
tell that isn't true.
(Though, it's possible that I
have heard some of them in
another context, and I'm simply
unconsious of it.)
I had track 10 running
through my head for some time
before pinning it down:
A tag on the page hints that
some music is from Totoru,
but the only thing that I
remembered from the film was
the cutsey/cloying main theme.
It turns out that track 10
is used as the theme of the
Great Tree. a very cool
mix of japanese female
vocals plus stacco synth +
chimes...
LEAVING
After many listens, at least one
of the mystery pieces has grown
on me bit: My current favorite
track is the unidentified track
6... It ranks right up there
with Cheico Kawabi's "Candy TRACKSIX
Baby". It might actually be her
vocals, for all I know.
An odd mystery: a tag keyword is "One Piece",
but so much music has been associated with I've yet to watch
property, I can't find the connection with any of the anime
just a few web video searches. for "One Piece".
I have however
read a hell of
a lot of the manga.
This doesn't seem to be
a "best of" mix. Many
recent hits are missing,
such as the music from
"The Melancoly of Haruhi
Suzimiya", not to And how is it there's no
mention "Lucky Star". Yoko Kanno music in the set?
Could it be that the DJ Not even "Inner Universe"?
is some sort of shonen Is that too grown-up for

"Moe" stuff?
But then how did "Fruits
Basket"-- the worst music in And the "Fruits Basket"
the set-- make the cut? The theme is redundant as
premise: a young girl, after far as the flow of the

cross-dressing secondary

and so on...
