                                                      "Men of Tomorrow" (2004)
                                                      by Gerard Jones
A brief collection of nitpicks (more-or-less)
about the accuracy of Gerard Jones. MEN_OF_TOMORROW

Gerard Jones presents one of the
tales of the creation of the Shadow
                             pulp as The Truth (p. 73) --
radio fans were asking for it by
name, so they'd better create it.
                             There's an alternate (but not
                             contradictory) story, that it
was a maneuver to sew-up ownership
                             of the character.

                                              SHROUDED_IN_SHADOW

                                  Considering how much of the
story of Superman is bound up in
                                  legal wrangling over ownership,
                                  skipping that angle would seem
                                  to be a serious oversight.

On the other hand, I can affirm
that Gerard Jones seems to have
   thoroughly examined some of the
   primary sources:

"The early history of fandom is covered in sometimes
excruciating detail in Harry Warner Jr.,
"All Our Yesterdays" (Chicago; Advent, 1969),
and Sam Moskowitz's dramatic but biased
"The Immortal Storm" (Westport, CT; Hyperion Press,
   reissued 1974)" -- p. 344
