FROM_THE_OUTSIDE
Whenever I read about the process that went into
creating the Bowie/Eno album "Outside", I find it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outside_(David_Bowie_album)
profoundly depressing. Now, I think this is an
okay record, albiet weirdly murky--
But the sheer amount of *work* they went though,
the conniptions of this crew of accomplished intelligent
people trying so *hard* to be Truly Creative--
when you look at what they actually came up with...
my god this is profoundly depressing.
I can't help but feel embarassed for them.
It makes me nervous
about trying to do
Bowie comments about painting, creative work myself.
talking about how really good artists
know *where to stop*-- it's really If people like
easy to do *too much* and damage a Bowie and Eno
painting, or to worry about doing can go this far
that and produce a work that's weaker wrong and sabotage
than it should be. themselves so badly,
what hope is there
You can say the same thing about for the rest of us?
process-- you can get too enamored
of your own genius and go overboard
indulging it.
