                                                           IMPULSE

To have respect for the wisdom of the impulse,
To use the spontaneous, without being seduced by it:

to retain the ability to plan, to bind time,

to be able to continue on to the finish,
             or at least a finish.

  Strategies:

assume an outside obligation: make promises

work quickly, while enthusiasm is still with you

choose reasonably sized projects that you can complete given
    the time and resources.

look for things that are achievable, goals you can reach
    without an unrealistic effort.

But as for knowing when to stop,
I think all that can be said is
that you should know when to stop.

There might be some rule of thumb,
   like don't revise a work if it's
   over a year old: you're a different
person now, what right do you have to
   mess with that guys work?

And if you've been "blocked" on a project for
over a nonth, maybe it's time to admit you
shouldn't be doing it.

  Myself, I never say die:

The notes for the advanced math
      class that confused me decades
ago, still reside in a box in my
      office, awaiting the day they
      will be exhumed.
