What was the first scene?

   Most examples have precursors...

   goths were preceeded by punks;
   punks were preceeded by glam rockers;
   hippies were preceeded by the beats.

Candidates:
     
  The Beats, are arguably the ur-scene, or    
  "The Source" to quote William Burrough's       THE_SAUCE
  claim.                                  
         
  The 1940s Science Fictions fans are
  arguably the ur-fandom, from which
  the punks learned about fanzines,
  and the goths learned about
  conventions.

Of late, I've been wondering if I need
to trace things back further...
"The Lost Generation"?

  And there may be others 
  I just don't know anything       PITA_MAHA
  about as of yet...
