PERSONAL_AUGMENTAION

I've said things like this:

  "Ideas like these are the reason Engelbart
   invented the personal computer: he was        THE_SECRET_MASTERS_OF_DESTINY
   after a gadget that would ramp up the
   intelligence of humanity."

And gotten push-back from people who
like a different story, who use a
definition of a "personal computer"                 By the way, Woz and Jobs
that require a microprocessor inside                fans: Apple wasn't the
the box in front of you.                            first PC by this standard,
                                                    either.
Englebart and Company were
working long before
microprocessors existed,
but this is what I take to
be the core idea:

   "The category of 'more radical
   innovations' includes the
   digital computer as a tool for
   the personal use of an
   individual." -- Englebart, 1962
