  I find myself entering a period of
  optimism-- I have a sense that this
  nightmare is about to end: thirty           You, on the other hand
  years is a long enough sleep, even          should probably take this
  for the laziest American, the alarms        manic phase of mine as
  have been ringing, and it's time for        reason to despair,
  them to wake.                               considering my poor track

                                              predictions.
     An assignment for myself
     in "scenario planning":
     roll with this optimism,
     sketch out what is the
     best we can reasonably
     expect.
