"This is one of the small wonders of consumer
capitalism: As the business turned more
mercenary and seedy, it was able to provide a
more complete fantasy world for its most
devoted fans. A genuine zeal had been needed
to bring Philip Nowlan's odd vision of the AMAZING_AUGUST_1928
twenty-fifth century to print in the first
place, but the investors who strectched it
into the daily papers, the silver screen, the
radio waves, the book pages, and the toy
shelves examined and sold it like a bolt of
cloth. To the kids who could now immerse
   themselves in that simplistic, vibrant
reality at any time and through nearly every
sense, it didn't matter. The cheesiness was
a price worth paying for immersion."
