       Alan Kay, like a lot of people in
       his generation, I think-- talks a       GOTO_ALAN_KAY
       lot about "Systems": big things
       built out of many components.                  Brooks uses the same
                                                      phrase a lot in
                                                      "Mythical Man-Month"

                                              The phrase "Systems" has a
                                              different spin on it now, I
                                              think, e.g. "system
                                              adminstration" is widely
                                              (probably wrongly) regarded
                                              as easier than programming--

                                                 Similarly, using "high
                                                 level" languages has less
                                                 status than someone
                                                 working on the the lower
                                                 level/core components.

                                                        "Merely" sticking
                                                        together existing
                                                        components.
