Everyone is into "technology"
these days, but what do they
mean by that?
The "technology" section of the
newspaper is invariably reviews
of consumer crap electronics.
This stuff has been around
for decades in some form or They rarely talk about
another. Is it really news? things like new semiconductor
fabrication techniques, which
is what enables a lot of the

never seems to have reviews
of something like a new
type of recumbent bicycle.
Doesn't that count as
technology?

have a cure for AIDS
than new technology."
The kid doesn't care
about stuff like "new
kinds of cellphones".
It would be easy to be
dismissive of this
shallow understanding
of "technology" --
But this usage is
all too common.
As of May 27, 2022, The front page of the google news
"Technology" section features:
"Chromebooks will now tell you when you're using the
wrong USB-C cable", The Verge
"The Dark Souls servers are finally being repaired after
three months of downtime", Gamesradar
"It's hard to believe Google Drive's just now getting copy /
paste shortcuts", The Verge
They should rename this the "Trivia" section.
