CRAZY_WIND

To return to one of my common themes:

   These days, the left like to regard themselves
   as the sane, "reality based" people, and that           REALITY_DEBASED
   may be true *these days*, but there was a time
   when the left could be pretty crazy themselves.

Many people on the left have gotten awfully smug about how
those Republican-types are completely out of touch with
reality.  They refer to the left as "the reality-based
community", and float theories about how the very brains of
the Conservative Mind are warped, and their view of the
world is inherently damaged.

But there was a time when there were some pretty crazy
bastards rising out of what was going on on the left.  And
that craziness matters, if you want to understand the
craziness of the right today-- There is a dance of reaction
and counter-reaction, where the extremes of one side drives
the other off into extremes of it's own.

   A prime example: the post-60s bomb-planting
   radicals, ala The Weathermen:

On the this subject, I am indeed inclined to argue that
"both sides do it"... but I wouldn't claim that that both
sides are doing it to the same extent: The left may have
it's crazies, but the right keeps it's crazies in Congress).

   While indulging in false equivalence is one problem,
   but indulging in false superiority is another.

   There two different ways of being out of touch with reality.
