GAZA_GUILT
February 18, 2025
In the months before the 2024 election, the Israeli
attacks on Gaza were increasing in severity, eventually THE_HAMAS_FAULT
provoking the ICJ to label it "genocide".
As this was happening, there was a faction of people
online who started jamming, making excuses for what
Israel was doing, and denying that it was actually
a genocide.
I was told that obviously the United States had to
go along with what Israel was doing because *mumble*.
And clearly President Biden couldn't interfere with
this process because:
(1) really there was nothing he could do on his
own, he's only the president.
It was quickly pointed out that this is wrong:
arms shipments to Israel were structured to
get them below the limit that would require
Congressional approval. Biden could simply
decide to stop sending weapons.
(2) political realities were such that Biden could not
interfere with Israel or risk losing the election
because *mumble*.
Then polling came out showing that a majority
of Americans actually wanted arms shipments
to Israel to stop.
Just going by ethnicities: something like 2.5%
are Jewish and 1.5% are Islamic, but the Jewish
population is clustered in safely blue states,
and the Islamic population was in swing states, Few of us argued
and notably Michigan might actually be lost that this was
on the Gaza issue. *why* you should
care about the
issue.
TEAM_BRAINS_BROKEN
Further: there are laws on the books prohibiting the
US government from supporting a genocidal military
operation.
The Biden regime covered for this by have the Blinken
state department lie about what was happening in
Gaza, denying it was a genocide over the objections This sort of
of the members of his staff-- some of whom resigned unmitigated
over this-- and going against the rulings of the ICJ. sleaze is the
sort of thing
you expect from
BIDEN_RESTRAINED Republicans.
But when
Democrats do
it it's supposed
to be okay.
The moderate
extremists all
politely look
the other way
and pretend
they don't see.
But okay, so rightly or wrongly the
conventional wisdom was that doing
something about the Gaza genocide
before the election was politically
impossible.
For the Democrats, it was a case of
genocide or lose, so we were going
to go with genocide.
But what we actually got was genocide
*and* lose and now, true to form the
Democratic Centrists keep jumping to
blame everything on the left.
If only the left would learn the virtues
of Omerta, all would have been well. THE_GAZA_SHUT_UP
But which was is? No one cared about Gaza,
or too many people cared about Gaza?
How can you have both conditions at the
same time?
They come back to this farily often as an
explanation for the 2024 loss, but I still
can't see how they figure it-- it's like
some weird guilt reaction, they need to
justify what they've done, and justify
ignoring the obvious moral problems with
the US course of action...
