I remember one morning in 2023, back in the days when I
would begin each day smelling the NYTs briefs, which in
those days were all written by David Leonhardt.

That particular column (calling them "news briefs" at that
stage was a bit of a stretch) was very impressive.  It was
all about

   The new IPCC report;
   Trump's interference with the judicial process;
   The war in Ukraine;                                 (Is there an
     and                                               Oxford
   China's sabre rattling over Taiwan.                 semi-colon?)

     Just to spell out the obvious:

     No one grants access to everyone, there's always a filter.

     Students at a major university have some right to demand
     to hear from high quality intellects.

     It is unlikely that a Trump appointee qualifies by any
     reasonable standard except political connection.


          Yes, an open exchange of ideas is valuable,
          but no, you don't have to be open to exchanging
          ideas with just anyone.


                And myself, I decided that David Leonhardt was not
                one of those people, though that had more to do with
                making excuses for Israel.
