LOWTIDE
A "LocalInactivist" at reddit complains
about San Jose losing it's cultural edge:
SAN_JOSE_IN_DECLINE
That's a familiar story for the Bay Area in general.
I responded with some reminiscing about the
old days of Palo Alto... https://www.reddit.com/r/bayarea/comments/m04ug3/an_optimistic_vision_of_bart_in_the_2030s/gq8gmbt/
"There’s not much to do here and the
soul has been leeched out of the place."
CAVE
Preach it. When I got to Palo Alto in the mid-
80s it wasn't my favorite town, but there INTERNATIONAL_LAG
were some weird ass diners around (one on
University Ave was open 24 hours, had
remarkably dubious food served by zombie-
vampires, and was filled with cigarette smoke
at all times), the punk CFY records place was PRINTERS_INK
tucked down an industrial alley on the other
side of the tracks (now it's a medical BIG_BOXES_OR_NONE
complex), there was easily a half-dozen
independent book stores in town, including
one of the first coffee house/book store
combos I'd ever seen, Printer's Ink, there
were some decent music shows at that place on
California (that went by several different In the mid-90s I saw
names over the years, last one I remember was "Miranda Sex Garden"
"The Edge")... with "Einsteurzende
Neubauten" there.
I talked to a current resident of Palo Alto They joined forces on
who absolutely loves the place, refering to a transitional piece
it as "Mayberry RFD".... at the end of MSG's
opening set that was
easily one of the
best things either
group had done.
