NO_SIGNAL_SEA

In the Thai rom-com "My Bubble Tea", at one point
all of the main characters take a road trip to a
remote location, a beach on the coast of "The No
Signal Sea".
That made perfect sense to me: I doubt there are many
places like that left in Thailand, but that works as
a plot device: now everyone will have to communicate
in different ways.
When they get there, people continue to
use their phones without any explanation.
A little later, they throw in a new detail:
you *can* use phones there, you just need to
get a special SIMM card.
The female lead then spends most of the rest
of the trip on the phone to the second
male, the one character that isn't with her
on the trip.
So: what was the point of
"The No Signal Sea" bit in
the first place?
I'm an older person who has always
been anti-mobile phone: I need to
to work to remember that life is And by now, it's actually
different for many other people. *most* other people--
But there are kids who PHONES_UBER_ALLES
are even worse off:
their imagination
fails at the thought
of being off-the-grid
for a few days.
