The artist's statement for
"the Brenner-Nielsen Context":
                                                     Displayed at
There was a time when stuff was expensive, Cellspace during
and hence it was valued, and people tried Open Studios, 2009.
to accumulate it. Think of the cluttered
look of the settler's cabin, or the Hearst
  mansion at San Simeon.

Now stuff is cheap, and human perversity
being what it is, empty space is valued,
and the fashion is to show off how much
space you can afford to waste.

  Self-help seminars instruct on the
difficult mental process of disposing of
your old stuff to make room for the latest
stuff, in the never-ending stuff stream.

But then, there are always contrarians:

         "'It's like you guys
         never threw out
         anything that you THRIFT_SCORE
         thought was funny when
         you were twenty.'

         "Ouch."

               Beth Lisick,
               "Helping Me Help Myself"
               (2009)

And boxing it up at least makes it
  easier to dust. As Dangerbaby
                                                often points out.
