There's a point that I used to try
to make fairly often, following Chomsky:

Hamas is the government of Gaza because they
were elected back in 2006, at which point
Israel immediately put them under blockade--
because the US and Israel only believes in
democracy when the right side wins elections.
Since then, Israel has prevented any further
elections, so Hamas remains in charge by
default.


      The Zionist counter-points include

        (1) insisting that Hamas has declared
            it wants to destroy Israel--         There are other places
                                                 where Hamas has said
            That's stated baldly as though       other things, but the
            this necessarily justifies           Zionists ignore those.
            Israel taking pre-emptive
            action against Gaza.                 You can see how a neighboring
                                                 territory saying threatening
                                                 things would be cause for
                                                 concern, but then Hamas does
                                                 not actually have the resources
                                                 to do anything like that.

                                                 "We get to stomp anyone who
                                                  says mean things" is not an
                                                  accepted principle of
                                                  international law.

       (2) It's not true that *Israel*
           is prevented free elections,
           it'S all Hamas's fault!


           Now: that's not the impression I have,
           but it *could* be I have it wrong,
           or partially wrong or something, so
           ideally I would check this some
           time, but I haven't, so...

           So, what might very well be yet another lie
           or distortion in a long sequence of Zionist
           lies and distoritions encourages me to stay
           silent, in spite of myself.

                                   Someone on reddit give me the line
                                   that the Gaza blockade was not
                                   just Israel's doing because Egypt
                                   was happy to go along with it.
