                                             December 10, 2007
   I like the word "method",
or at least I like the METHOD
   *sound* of it, I like
   something about it's
   associations.

   ...but I sometimes suspect
that it has baggage that I
   haven't yet hefted, certainly
going back as far as the
existentialists, perhaps as There's a Sartre book
far as Marx/Hegel? "Search for a Method".

       Tis a tricky SEARCH_FOR_A_SEARCH
       business,
       adopting a
       vocabulary by
       associations.

          An example:

          Some young folks
          on KPFA dropping KPFA
          lines like "There
          is also the
          problem of black
orientalism" as A person unschooled in the
though you're just duck-speak of the moment
supposed to know might say something
what that means. like "anti-islamic sterotypes
                                    among black people"

          (I know enough to
          know that it's a
          reference to
          Edward Said, and ORIENTALISM
          I know enough
          about that to
          know I don't
          want to adopt
          his terminology
          uncritically...)
                                             The vocabulary of intellectuals
                                             is not always an intellectual
                                             vocabulary.
